The Achasta community is designed to offer more than three and a half miles of maintained walking trails for your enjoyment. Along with existing trails, plans for additional trails and trail legs are in the works.

Achasta is only a short 30-minute drive from the start of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. This trail is the nation’s longest footpath and it winds through 14 states as far North as Maine.

The walking trails here at Achasta give our residents a great way to enjoy the wonderful mountain air while also partaking in some moderate-physical activity. It’s no secret that daily exercise such as walking can greatly increase our quality of life and health.

Walking Can Help Reduce Your Risk of Cancer

On-going research shows that an active lifestyle can help prevent certain cancers.

According to researchers at the University of Tromso, Norway, physical activity during leisure time can reduce the risk of breast cancer. This study was administered on over 26,000 women. This data and other reports confirm earlier assumptions that staying active can help prevent breast cancer.

An extensive study suggests that walking and other forms of daily exercise can help reduce the risk of colon cancer. According to the study, moderate recreational exercise was enough physical activity to bring a 40% risk reduction for colon cancer. The report states that walking helps speed up the ingestion of food.

It is also believed that walking can help reduce the side effects of chemotherapy.

Walking Can Slow Down The Human Aging Process

Besides helping reduce your risk for cancer, there are other benefits to walking. Studies show that adults who partake in at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity daily are biologically younger than sedentary individuals of the same age.

With so many benefits, exercising should be a priority for everyone. We encourage all of our residents to take advantage of the beautiful walking trails that are provided within our community. Our goal is to increase our resident’s quality of life through not only our walking trails, but also other outdoor activities.
