Achasta Resident Clubs

Written by Achasta on July 30, 2010 at 2:32pm

Did you know that there are several resident-organized clubs here at Achasta?  Below are just a few of the clubs that residents have formed and organized independently.  Be sure to check back because we will be posting more and new clubs are forming all the time.

Veteran’s Association: Chair- Lee Flowers

Members of the Veteran’s Association are Achasta residents, members, or employees who have successfully completed basic training or an officer basic course of any military service. They have also been retired or discharged under honorable conditions or are still serving on active duty
An associate member is any Achasta resident or member or employee who has a desire to support the    association

  • 31 members and 12 associate members
  • Currently looking for charities with pre-existing veteran qualifications
  • Fundraisers: Golf events that are open to everyone and eventually boxes will be placed around town to collect items to send to soldiers in need
  • What is Achasta doing to help? Active duty soldiers pay member fees for golf, 2-3 times a year 12 soldiers at a time are chosen by North Georgia College and Camp Merrill personnel to have lunch with the members of the Veteran’s Association and a round of golf on Achasta. This is a great way to get to know the soldiers in the community.

Book Club: Chairs-Jeanette Ensley and Diane Hanley

  • The club meets once a month year-round with 20+ members
  • Books are decided on by the group as a whole and one member volunteers to take on the book and be in charge of the discussion
  • Outings: for Christmas, there is a luncheon where each member purchases a book and the books are exchanged by members

Chess Club: Chair: Greg Fender

  • The club meets once a month with 8 members
  • Meeting place is rotated each month to different members’ houses
  • It’s a great chance to get together, play chess, and enjoy one another’s company
