The 24th Georgia Senior Championship started yesterday here at Achasta. The field started at 144 players which will be cut to the low 70s after 36 holes. Local GSGA members Fred Atterberry, Gerry Grogran, and Wally Gramling will be playing in this year’s tournament. This year’s event features stroke play each day.
This tournament dates all the way back to 1955. It ran all the way to 1971 when it then took a 15-year break. In 1987 the event was revived and has been played every year since.
Event champions are presented with the Johnny Skeadas Trophy. John Skeadas was a two-time event champion from Savannah, GA. His family, in honor of Skeadas and his accomplishments, presents the trophy every year.
